People who have large, deep lakes or ponds with moderate to heavy spring flow may choose to stock cool water gamefish, such as walleye, yellow perch, and smallmouth bass, in addition to the traditional gamefish species. In cooler waters, the spawn of forage fish will not be as productive and a feeding program must be initiated.
Diffused aeration is recommended to create a cooler, more uniform temperature throughout the water. Aeration will provide a larger usable area for these fish as well. Structures placed in both shallow water and in open deep water are also very important in these cool water fisheries.
