Forage Stocking

THE FORAGE STOCKING includes a combination of fathead minnows and golden shiners.

  • Forage fish readily spawn throughout the spring and early summer
  • Helps maintain a healthy fish population
  • Allows gamefish to devote less time to seeking out prey
  • Helps gamefish grow larger & spawn more successfully
  • Forage fish reduce insect larvae
  • Stock spring and fall to sustain an adequate forage base

Derby Stocking

Whether you are a farm owner, president of a corporation or a community organizer, the stocking of adult channel catfish and hybrid bluegill for fishing derbies is gaining in popularity.  Children and adults alike love catching large sportfish.  The fight these fish provide makes lasting memories.

Derby fish are best stocked in the cool spring months of March and June.  While they can be stocked throughout the summer, these fish acclimate much better in cooler water and will bite quicker when the stress of stocking is kept to a minimum.

Muskellunge (Esox masquinongy), also known as muskie, are a long, slender predator with a duckbill shaped mouth filled with needle shaped teeth.  Muskie prefer lakes with much vegetation and woody structure with a preferred water temperature of 70º to 75º F.  However, they can tolerate warmer water temperatures for short periods of time.  The diet of a muskie consists of crayfish, frogs, snakes, ducks and fish; essentially anything that fits in their mouth is fair game.  For this reason, we recommend stocking only two to three muskie,

TILAPIA (Oreochromis spp.)

ALIAS:  Blue tilapia, Nile tilapia, St. Peter’s fish

IDENTIFICATION: This blue and reddish-pink colored fish is capable of achieving lengths of 21" and weights up to 10 lbs. The long dorsal fin is indicative of this fish.
